THE PROCESS

Eligibility and Selection: This program is available to all U.S. citizens who are “Registered Voters”. All applications for the Boot Camp are accepted and given full consideration–regardless of race, ethnic origin, gender, gender orientation, religious affiliation or political party preference. Participants will be selected solely on their abilities, as demonstrated in the application submitted.  Applicants may also be nominated by a Member of Congress (e.g., by a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC); however, those who are nominated are required to follow the same application process as all other applicants. Final selection is based solely on the background of the applicant and the quality of the application submitted.

Applications:Applications may be accessed and submitted online by clicking “apply now” below.  The online application includes a personal program statement for completion. Every effort should be made to complete all required fields of the application, including indication of ‘none’ or ‘not applicable’ (N/A). Incomplete applications will not be considered.

In addition to the completed application, the following items must be submitted:

·  One letter of recommendation from: your employer or a professional in the political field (elected official or state party chair), or local chapter of your NAACP, Urban League, or similar organization. 

·  A professional resume which includes summary of political and issue advocacy activities

·  A current 3×5 photo

· An essay of between 500 and 800 words (requested in the application) on why this program would be of benefit to you and your career goals.

· Media and Database Information Release Form and Checklist provided at the end of the application.

DeadlinesThe deadline for submission of applications is May 7, 2012  

Application Fee:  $25.00 – non refundable – This fee is waived for applicants nominated by a Member of Congress. Application fees are to be made payable to the CBC Institute and mailed to: 413 New Jersey Avenue SE; Washington, DC 20003.

Program Fee: $5,000* covers the cost of program materials, instructions, supplies, housing and all meals is due within 10 days of receiving your acceptance notification.

Cancellations and Refunds:  Program fee will be refunded – less a $500 processing fee – if cancellation is received 15 days prior to program start. Any cancellations made after the 15 day period will be subject to an assessment of 50 percent of the program fee.

*Limited Scholarships are available to worthy applicants and are subject to demonstration of financial hardship or other mitigating circumstances.
